Meeting Needs and Making a Difference (Programming Librarian)
This article recommends Outcomes Based Planning and Evaluation (OBPE) as a best-practice orientation for program planning. Published online in the January, 2012 edition of ALA’s Publishing Librarian. The editor invited me to write this article based on a post I made on a LinkedIn thread about how to build attendance for programs.

Readers Advisory articles published in the Kitsap Sun newspaper
A team of librarians took turns publishing articles for the paper’s “Kitsap Life” section. I was the lucky one to get Valentine’s Day and the Fourth of July.

City of North Bend City Views semi-annual newsletter (highlights)
As Assistant Director of the North Bend Public Library (Oregon), I served as co-editor of the City newsletter (together with City Recorder Joann Thompson). City Views was published twice each year, in October and May. I also wrote articles about the library and its services to publish in the newsletter.

Sample Press Release: Oregon Days of Culture, October 2012
As Assistant Director of the North Bend Public Library, a city library that is part of the non-centralized Coos County Library Service District, I became intimately acquainted with all the aspects of running a public library, from technical services to community relations. We had central supports for the ILS, ILL, original cataloging, and materials delivery, but everything else was in-house. I developed a combination program planning/press release template to keep me on track for program logistics and publicity. This sample from the Oregon Days of Culture in 2012 represents one of my more ambitious (and successful!) projects for partnerships and programming in our remote small city on the southern Oregon coast (2 hours’ drive from the nearest Target, Costco, Trader Joe’s, or phô restaurant…).

The Daily News (Longview, WA) articles for the Woodland Chamber of Commerce
While serving as the Woodland Community Librarian for Fort Vancouver Library (Washington), I became active with the Chamber of Commerce as a way to connect with prominent community stakeholders in this small town. It was an important thing to do in that context, building relationships that drew more people to the library and opened opportunities for meaningful programs and services. While serving on the board, I wrote articles for the Chamber newsletter that were also published in the Longview Daily News.

Articles about Abbie and the Woodland Library (Washington)
When I became the Woodland Community Librarian, one of the first things I learned was that I was news. Some of my most effective work came from good relationships with reporters and with the local publications that let me connect with the community more meaningfully. I somehow managed not to keep personal copies of the many articles I wrote about library services that were published in the monthly Lewis River Review and the weekly Reflector (published out of Battle Ground, Washington).
